Seen at the Scene

A police officer asked each person what had happened.
A self assured man said that what he saw was a crime.
The lady with the blue hat claimed teat it was deliberate.
We heard the cool voice of a soldier say differently.
A girl of about nine years gave truth a new meaning.
Five persons had spoken but none told the officer facts.

He asked if there was a person who could tell him
what had happened and how it had affected those persons.
From a raised window across the street came an old
woman's voice, "Each of us saw the same thing happen but
wanted to protect the one who did the unfortunate deed."

She explained to the officer that the young man driving
the automobile had backed over the lady's blue hat,
crushing it into the pavement, and that the man was her
husband and that it happened after the hat blew off.
She summed it up by pointing out that the young driver's
girl friend was the daughter of the older couple who had
forbidden their girl to take a ride with her young friend.
