A reality for far too many ...

Poem Artwork

It's a good morning; the sun is shining;
the birds are singing; life stirs for all, but
not in the yellow house on the corner:
Two Marines knocked on the door with news from
the front lines:  her son's not coming home.  How
many mornings will be shattered with cries
of grief, with screams that silence the dawning,
that hushes the birds in the trees?  Life goes
on for some, but tell that to the woman
in the yellow house on the corner:  for
her, life came to a final, screeching halt
with news no Mama ever wants to hear.

A heart rendering poem this morning...you've brought this to life with your voice. The visual images bring sadness to this piece. You did a great job on this writing.

Which come first to stop a war, a lack of bullets or a lack of soldiers?
When enough is enough?
In my last war, over 56.000 grieving parents were asking the same.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my husband, Bernie. We were thinking how no matter what we are doing/where we are/etc, something truly awful is happening at the same time elsewhere. War, disease, accidents, suicides, etc. Terrible how much we have to endure and cope with in life. It's sadly part of human life. Your poem brings home how terrible life's moments can be.

Karla~

"...with news no Mama wants to hear". WOW. That line hits the readers like a ton of bricks. Sad, heartbreaking write, yes, freedom does come at a price, a heavy one. Very well and effectlively penned; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

You write of the "shame of war" that we all should feel so much guilt about, Karla. Freedom comes at a very high price, and that Woman in the yellow house on the corner" has just learned exactly how high that price truly is, while the rest of us bask in liberty at the expense of her son. We must never forget even one of our fallen because all that each of us have, we owe to them. Thank you for "putting it out there" yet again, for all of us to take stock in the humility that we should feel, for being granted all that we have. Fine work, Karla.
Take care,
Sherry

A very touching write, one that is a reality for too many! Such a sad event, can't imagine the heartache and grief that one would feel. Beautiful write dear friend, you've captured the heart of a very sad and realistic event that is happening all over our nation. Exceptional write!
