Sacrifices, obeyed
at the hands of leaders
who've no idea of
what they're asking: the cost,
the cost, the terrible
cost stains their hands blood red,
one that cannot be washed
away or forgotten ---
and yet, they turn their backs,
hardening hearts, turning
deaf ears to Veterans
thanked by being shuffled
and lost in paperwork ---
we're here. Somewhere, we're here:
and we will remember.
We are silent, no more.
My twin brother is being processed out from Iraq in Ind,with his unit,he seems to be dong ok....now my son heads back for round 2 soon.....thanks telling write,

Great write.. The cost is horiffic! The ones who survive , pay a price. You are RIGHT,, more attention needs to be paid to our vets. The war needs to stop , too many are dying!........M
The politicians should be forced to be on watch among the Arlington graves, alone, in a raining night, from dust to dawn, with their hands tied on their back, as many night as they need until they understand the plight of the soldier that they so light handed send to war.
Very well said Karla. I wish there was no such thing as war. Could you imagine two countries playing basketball instead of shooting each other? I can, but unfortunately it will never happen. This is a poem that reminds me of the song The Night The Lights Went Out In Gorgia. We should never trust our souls to no backwodds country leader, because he has blood stains on his hands.

We, perhaps, are (too slowly) working toward the day when we will gladly out-source (to Mars?) the Pentagon mentality which coldly deals in risk, advantages, acceptable losses - numbers - and treats soldiers as human fodder to be celebrated but not cared for. Oops, my podium is showing.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. This citizen doesn't want what is going on with the Vets to continue. Couldn't believe they had let it get so bad in the first place. Rotting ceilings and walls. And still the abuse goes on with VA's refusal to diagnose a war Vet with post traumatic stress disorder. Criminal. Excellent write. Liz
Hi Karla, you know I'm a vet, but who's listening? People with their opinions, they don't do anything. They're the ones who vote the non-listeners and non-doers into office.
...you have well penned what needs to be said...your strong voice is heard here...and in agreement...I appreciate you...your thoughts...and all those who fight for our country.

We owe our freedom and safety to those men and women whom choose to fight for our country, protect our children, and whom serve with pride. It takes a special person to volunteer to put themselves in harms way, to stand up and fight for themselves as well as their country and others. Well done my friend!

Our military men and women should be our first priority: nothing but the BEST for them!! None should be homeless or hungry!! None should lack for the medical care given to government leaders instead of the leftovers. SHAME! Powerfully penned call for action! Very well written!

Excellent poem with factual concept, but we should also keep in mind their is no draft, and blaming just leaders is not the whole story. We need to make our votes count and also remember that the same story is enacted during and after every war no matter whether the administration is Reps or Dems. What we need is more people to join together to change the process we use to go to war. ET
I was listening to CNN last night and one of the sentators I can not remembeer which was talking about being against benefits for our troops and for the widows of troops
