The sun, white hot, burns
the blue from the sky,
until all is red
with fire. Hurts to breathe.
Each inhalation
a scythe scraping lungs
dry ... as void as the
air, outside. And it's
just getting started,
the heat of summer.

Just getting started...and hope that it continues after the freezing storms that castigate many people with winds, ice and cold rains, it's time for them to complaing about the heat and forget their freezing tushings.
I do so love the hot summers. Here is sometimes in the 90's. I can dress accordingly and stay cool. I do not like to lay out in the sun, not a sun worshipper like my daugher is. I cannot wait til summer but it is only May here and mostly cooler than usual right now for the season. Good write.
What a great picture and write, your imagery is powerful and brings the write to life! I could almost feel the heat as I read the poem. Strange how the weather can be so different at the same time. It is cooler than usual here, I had to light the fireplace a few minutes ago...I never know how to dress! Enjoyed this my friend!

Just got back from pet store, and 'tho it feels like 100 deg. out, it's only (HA!) 95 heavy deg. 15 mi. to your North. Your description in right on the mark, Karla...and I'm settin' up for my hibernation soon.
BTW, was down at Babe's yesterday, friends took me, and in a hurry to get home (after sittin' and eatin' for 2 hours :o) That's the BEST dad-gum fried chicken in the South! Or the whole of the U..S.ofA!!
