"searching for the peace that eludes" is perhaps the best interpretation I have seen offered as an apt explanation of what those heroes endure after the rage of battle. What the eye has seen can never be erased; war exposes not only the body to carnage but the mind and the heart also, whilst fighting to preserve what, to us, is "normal". I remember my Uncle Mac returning from the Bataan Death March in WWII. He was a damned man. Died alone, with just his demons as company.

They'll take the most battle-hardened vets from Iraq and Afghanistan and turn them against us soon too. Probably when the economy crashes, we have hyper-inflation, food and austerity riots, etc. Excellent work Karla.
