               the angry sky was snarling.
                      it was ripping, snorting mad.
i knew we were in for it.
it was going to get bad.
i wore moisture like a coat.
sweat was running down my brow.
it was coming up a cloud.
we were going to get plowed.
              i
t had been sunny and warm.
but now black clouds filled the sky.
             A WARNING CRACK OF THUNDER!
the storm would not be denied.
                         i went in my apartment.
                                stood looking out the window.
did not like the looks of things.
a stiff breeze began to blow.
                   i then turned on my t v.
to see where the storm would head.
   the radar screen came alive.
the most intense part was red.
that was to the west of us.
it was heading straight this way.
i went back to the window.
                              the clouds roiled in dismay.
                                   lightning stabbed down in fury.
shattered clouds cried out in pain.
                              the wind shook my apartment.
then came the hail and the rain.
the thunder roared out my name.
the storm had me in its sights.
i was trapped with no escape.
my nerves were trembling in fright.
the sirens began to wail.
where was i going to go???
     a tiny room my shelter.
          didn't feel very safe, though.
i don't like cramped, small places.
but i hate storms even more.
then the damn fool lights went out.
my heart nearly hit the floor.
rain was knocking to come in.
                                        the thunder muttered a grunt.
"go away!" i cried in fear.
(how i hate these stupid fronts.)
                                  it seemed it stormed forever.
i thought i would go insane.
                       finally, the storm passed by.
my nerves were worn out and drained.
       severe storm season draws nigh.
it happens this time of year.
      i hope
           it doesn't get bad.
                storms are not
                        my thing,
                                you hear?  (i do not
                                        like storms
                                              at  ALL!!)

Love the way you formatted this poem, Karla; an intense, imagery-filled poem that perfectly captures the drama of the storm and the fear you feel during storms! Very well done, Karla; enjoyed much! BRAVA!

I agree with Ed...at least to the point that I love storms. My brother and I stood outside watching most of Isabel, our tropical disaster for the (hopefully) decade here in Virginia. But I also understand your fear...we do not have the horrifyingly devestating tornadoes that your area has...my sister lived in Georgia for a while, and thunderstorms still scare her silly...its not something to scoff at..,you be well, M'Lady...

Well, the power of Nature, I love it...I would stand at that window till it was right on top of me, saying something stupid like come and get me I dare ya...

So when you visit my funeral you should know I died with my pants on, screaming at the storm, but remember you are the smart one, you at least hid. Me, I have little sense, I have to see what it is I shuld be afraid of...

Yes the way you wrote that like a tornado or lightening bolt twisted is so cool an idea, wish I had thought of it...LOL! Keep your head down, incoming...Peace thru Nature, Ed & Rufuz
