Fall River

I seek a silver trout
whose shadow flickers
upon bubbling stream
along stoney bottom
streaking along a riffle

I seek a cutthroat
flashing, laughing in glee
rising to salute me
a yellow-marmoot crosses my path
along fall river

I jump and howl
he bares his teeth
in a smile
he says hello
with a growl

I look up to piney top
a breeze whispers
a cloud obscures sunset
fall leaves float autumn
standing in fall river

I seek the perfect cast
just a trick of the light
to spark a flash
ignite a strike
leaves rain down upon me

I see streaks of silver
flash brightly in fall river
pools hold browns,
yellows, oranges and reds
warmed by golden glitter
