hospitals are not the best place to be

Room spinning round and round
An angel of mercy looks at me
She’s wearing a starched white gown
Head all fuzzy, where could I be
I’m cold but hot, wishing I was dead
So cold, I pull the blanket over my head.
My stomach is a volcano about to
erupt, lava all over the place, please not in my bed!
How embarrassing, then the angel comes and cleans me up.
Mercifully, the sand man comes and sprinkles me with dust.
The pain subsides for a little while, I’m so glad
To finally rest. But in the middle of the night,
The angel comes and gently shakes my shoulder.
I awake with a start, surely she jests, my
head feels like a boulder!
She whispers I know you’re not feeling
well; so I bought you something to sleep.
And when she gave me that disgusting pill,
The angel of mercy I was ready to kill!
Being in that place was even worse.
And although the care was the best,
I was glad to go home and finally rest!

Hospitals serve a purpose and are good to be in, if needed. I was a nurse and always tried to do the best I could to make my patients comfortable...M

Mary, your experience brings back many memories for me -- unfortunately most parallel yours -- even though the staff and physicians do the best they can -- hospitals are not my vision of a fun place to be -- when you are on the brink, pain is the only thing of which you can think -- morphine leaves you in a dream state from which you feel you will never awaken -- I'm glad you are out and safe -- peace and love -- Jon Michael

Mary,

I'm glad you got out alive. My last hospital stay, they prohibited my helper from staying with me, said that they would turn me but never did, and gave me MARSA, a highly contagious bacteria that kills. They apologized profusely after the fact, but it is too late after you are dead.

I've been in the hospital a few times for eye surgery. The care workers were very nice but still, it was a hospital and there's no place like home. Well-expressed, Mary. Love and blessings to you,

I was glad to go home and finally get some rest!

I know the feeling, all too well. And getting woken up to receive a sleeping pill always seems horrendously absurd.

Been there, did that, and felt the same feelings. It is extraordinary how people so different have the same experiences, but I guess that hospitals are the equalizer.

You say it so well! Anyone who has been anywhere near a hospital room or nursing home room will recognize what you say. Yes they are angels of mercy -- but they have to act on their schedule ... not yours. The patient is happy if only to go home and get some rest and privacy. But thank goodness for those angels -- what would we do without them? Susan

Hi Mary,

Glad you're home and well. Hospitals make you more sick I think.

Mary,
You handle an unpleasant experience well and with dignity, it's never easy being a patient and back home is easily the best place to be. Thank you for sharing this.
