Sometimes...in fact quite often...when its winter here in Canada....our spirits need a little boost now and then....today is the first time I've seen the sun in weeks! Hooray!!!

Poem Artwork

Momentary Reprieve

Spirit sagging beneath the weight
Of winter’s typical view!
Haven’t seen the sun in weeks
Can’t help but feeling blue!
Not much into outdoor sports
Don’t ski or skate or slide!
At least the cold and icy wind
Can’t reach me here inside!
My spirit is so out of sorts
I’m struggling to hold on!
It’ll be at least another four months
Before winter’s finally gone!
Wait a minute! What is that?
Way up there in the sky!
A tiny little patch of blue
Near blinding to the eye!
Poking through the dreary clouds
Sunshine at last hooray!
On a sparkling vista of snowy white
What a gorgeous winter day!
I’ll get out there and enjoy it,
For short-lived it’ll be I know!
I’ll stroll in winter’s wonderland
Up to my arse in snow!

I know exactly what you mean. We had 2 inches of snow and cold cloudy days for a week and that put me down. As you can probably tell, i'm not a winter person. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face this morning. May God bless you every day of your life.

Funny how blue sky takes away the blues. Patrick

Anna,
Lots of fun to read, especially that last line. Love the upbeat tone to this poem. Having a mild winter here, though we did just get a foot of snow. Dogs love it:)

Beautiful picture Annabel and beautiful story. I am not fussy about driving in the winter but a walk through the evening with the fluffy snowflakes takes me back to my younger days.

Two more months of this cold then you will see the sun everyday. But staying inside can be good too. You can give the Den more of your time. This way everyone can know the same as I how great of a writer you are.

Peace and Love

Oh I so enjoyed this!! I get SAD every year from January to April and have to use a light box..We are told to get outside too, but its the last thing I feel like doing... your words however so uplifted me that I have resolved be out too in Winter's Wonderland when next I see that tiny patch of blue...We had knee deep snow here in UK before Christmas, and the sight of the sun sparkling on the snow was simply magical...Your last line made me laugh too...so, all in all... thanks!!

Good! Get that Arse outside for some fresh, though still frigid air. Sorry to tell you my dear friend, but we/re heading into the low eighties this weekend. I remember a blizzard back in the sixties when I called my next door neighbor to tell him he's got snow up to his gas hole; meaning his car, of course.
Your friend, Mark
