The Dance

During a particularly violent thunderstorm last night...as I watched the lightening flash and the trees bending over with the wind...I thought about how terrifying it must be to experience a tornado. Although they're not something we've ever had to worry about in Atlantic Canada....with the crazy weather patterns now...who knows?

The Dance

Dancing with raindrops
Upon emerald green grass
My spirits soaring!

I look to the sky
Where ominous clouds threaten
To change the music…

Dark and sinister
An insidious monster
Reaches to the earth!

Destruction ensues…
A vortex without rhythm
Tears up the dance floor!

Suddenly silence…
And my spirits have been crushed…
The dance floor destroyed!

A fine haiku string that conveys the experience very effectively, Anna. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Great metaphor for the dance of life. We never know when destruction will come or what form it will take. is never something we did–just a random act of nature that created us in the first place

The weather has been wild here in Connecticut. I thought we were having a tornado on Thursday. It's sorta exciting actually.
Love your poem, it captures the essence of a storm.

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

We have had our fair share of violent thunderstorms and tornados this year. Though not directly faced with the destruction, it is still worrisome. To comment from Marcia...I have felt the ground shake under my feet, as I am from CA originally.

From Old Patrick's Almanac

When the sky becomes as green as the grass
To the storm cellar you must move your ass

I hope you never have to experience one Anna. We have no worries of them here in California, just earthquakes. When the ground beneath you shakes and shifts you know terror.

We're living The Book of Revelations and it's frightening to all.

You did a great job with this poem - you captured the essence perfectly.

Hugs,
Marcia

A WONDERFUL TIMELY SHARING WITH GOOD IMAGERY. I OFTEN THINK ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS SORT OF DEVASTATING LASH FROM NATURE. AND AS I PRAY FOR THEM I AM ALWAYS ENCOURAGED WHEN I HEAR ABOUT OR READ THEIR REMARKS; WE WILL REBUILD. FOR A WHILE THE DANCE FLOOR IS DESTROYED, YES, BUT NOT FOREVER...THEY WILL DANCE...AGAIN. THANK FOR THIS REMINDER OF PRESENT DAY TRAVASTIES THAT WE SHOULD NOT IGNORE. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

You re right, the tornadoes seem to be stretching their boundaries these day, and going where they have never gone before. Scary.

As one who has experienced a few tornadoes including an enormous one on a lake in a houseboat, it's hard to even describe their power and fury. And as you point out, they seem to be horrendously getting bigger, much more frequent, and in far more locations these days.

Splendid images, Anna!

We must all try to stay safe this summer, and we must get to the basement during these! The last tornado hit very close to my home and ever since I have been a bit shaken by the reality of it.
Blessings,
Christine

I have a fear of dry lightening although at the same time it is amazing to watch thunder and lightening showers from inside. I don't want to know what it is like to go through a Tornado. Great write.

They are terrifying, Annabel. I have talked to many who have seen that monster in the sky reach down to demolish a bit of earth. Your poem was presented well, complete with your fear showing through many of your lines. A good read. Joy L. Hale

Being from the mid-west I've been in a few and they are terriying. Feels like no place to go,and for me it was like I could be swept up and thrown miles. Now I don't fly and that was a terrifying thought for me.

I can certainly feel what you feel and most certainly can relate because, living in Southern California, lightening is vary rare and on the occasions when we do have rain and lightening, I am truly transfixed by it.
Your friend, Mark
