Photo by Regis (moi). The wild Easter lily is also known as the white fawn lily. It grows around these parts but it is not that common.
Wild Easter Lilies
Under their quilt of fallen frozen leaves, The lilies of spring sleep. The winter's touch is deep; The woods are dead and silent.
In the glacial distant sky, Ghostly northern lights Silently wax and wane Spectres seeking a peaceful resting site.
Even the owl is silent On this night at outer edge of winter.
And yet, Listen!
A precocious frog attempts a fragile, weakened call.
Ah, spring is still alive and it is waking!
Soon the wild Easter lilies of these peaceful, quiet woods Will emerge from damp and pungent forest floor. Their dappled leaves like backs of fawns Will slowly rise from their refuge and grace the woodland clearing.
Their blooms will burst forth to adorn An emerald carpet of reawakening moss. They'll pleasantly startle any who walk upon the path, When coming around a bend, These face a sudden host of white: Wild Easter lilies, their heads bowing gently, Swaying in a prayer of thanks Among the columns of their forest temple, Tranquil in the muted presence of filtered spring sunlight.
Oh God, I pray that I will see the lilies one more time!
THANKS FOR THE TERRIFIC PHOTO...ENJOYED ALMOST AS MUCH AS YOUR WONDERFUL PHRASES. GOD ANSWERED YOUR PRAYER REGIS, SO MANY TIMES OVER! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS
"Their dappled leaves like backs of fawns" is my favorite line because it identifies the author as a fellow woods walker. Where I used to walk in Vermont we had a wild orchid, called a Lady's Slipper. A beautiful presentation of picture and poem and thought. Henry
The lightness of touch and eye of the skilled photographer speak here, Regis. This is a feast for all the senses and lives with the spirit of resurgent hope and breakthrough longing that Easter typifies. No wonder your inner beauty has translated into such stunning progeny... they are alight with the gifts you have given them, like your poetry to us here. TY and Bless you, Regis. Kate xx

such a wonderful line!!! and so good to read this after an Easter Sunday that has quite literally flooded my backyard and managed to create a leak in the roof. Yikes. also... you have the most beautiful children, just happened to click on your home page for first time in a long time. I'm back, but I'm still taking some downtime. Take care. Hope to read more of you soon.

This takes me on a peaceful, tranquil, romantic, floating journey through the beauty of the earth. Lifting and rising all the senses and feelings of my soul and mind to almost a state of weightlessness.
The true beauty of Spring, life, the world.

I really appreciate this seasonal transition, because winter has been lingering in the east for a bit too long. Thanks for a good one.
Having grown up in Minnesota, and enduring long winters that nearly defeat the hope of spring, I am always surprised at the spring flowers. This poem is like a breath of that spring surprise , Lovely, Regis Thanks for sharing, Sandi
Imagery is truely wonderful here. But more than that, you touch on the cycle of life and your thankfulness of being alive. I deeply enjoyed this poem. Best regards, franz
Love the imagery in this beautiful poem heralding the coming of spring. My daughter brought me a great big Easter Lily plant and it is gracing our festive table this very day.. Happy Easter, I don't know how I missed this gem of a write earlier.
Dear Regis,
Such exquisite imagery and depiction of deep longing threaded through each word. I especially loved the words 'dappled leaves like backs of fawns' You write with such SOUL and you touch all who read.
With love and continued admiration

Hi Regis,
Your prayer will be answered. You will see the Lilies many many times again. Wonderful write.
You should be happy, your kids are beautiful. You accompolished yor reason for happiness.
Love and Blessings,
Judith
Your words weave imagery as brilliantly as the ghostly Northern Lights--I was mesmerized by the beauty and power of your pen! Thank you, mon ami, for the smile on my face at this moment--
This reminds me somewhat of Poe's suspensefulness and Kilmer's nature-like writings. Beautiful poem, Regis and perfectly suited for Easter weekend.
Take care,

Very beautiful, imagery, Regis, you transport the reader to the wilderness where the greenary is tells of spring and we see the flower blossom before our very eyes. You just let your imagination fly and it ends up in creative treasure.
Beautiful! I do also hope and pray
to see them again. Everyday we must
be grateful for the beauty around us.
It's very fragile and precious.
Thanks Regis, great message and an
excellent poem.
I pray that you will see them and that you will come here to share a few snapshots. I've never seen these wild ones but now that I have...I can smell them as well....feel their baby fine hairs that catch the dew. This poem is lovely and the picture gives us all more pleasure this morning. Your poem is the true gift for the future.
Thank you,
Susan
Regis, Not only is this a beautiful tribute to Spring, but also to the Easter Lily and the excitement of new life.
That photo is gorgeous, to match your poetry.
Happy Easter Regis!
I wish to see them too, especially after this poem, and to see them with the northern lights in the sky, a dream I have had throughout life..."SOMEDAY"! Enjoy to see Nature writes from you as you have your own window on the world flora and fauna as it were...Ed
Regis, your portrayal here of the coming spring, the forest floor and its dampness was so vivid that I could smell the decay of the leaves in which the life of spring abides..beautiful poem and prayers of health, peace of mind and confirmation of well being to you in every way.

You speak about the rarety of these flowers, the wildness and bounty of the forest. You are quite a bounty yourself, and your beautiful words spread like wildfire - to those who read them.
This to me is what religion should be all about, our connection to the rest of the universe, and to our ancestors who first were awed by its forces. I loke the photo too. It's a good one. You really have a strong connection etween the visual and verbal. From one who just stepped out of her darkroom: you ought to pick up a camera more often.
Regis - You surely did something right on this one. I don't recall having read so many entusiastic responses to one poem. Good going there, good friend. I second every word said before mine. This one is flawless with a streak of love for nature and mankind - the whole woods wide! - Bill
I really liked this one. I bought a potted Lily for my mom for Easter (we're traveling down to see her tomorrow)...and I have been in bliss every since just smelling the exotic and wonderful fragrance of the lily. I want one now! ;) Great poem with lovely images. :) Silver
PS: I agree...I think we are inspired by the same muse. ;)
A very nice and beautiful poem Regis. I liked this very much. And, what I wouldn't give for just one more look at the Aurora Borealis. When I was living in Calumet, Michigan, we could see the tail end of the Northern Lights. They were spectacular, even from outside the town limits of Calumet. May the Lord Jesus bless you and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & (((((((((MANY, MANY HUGGGGSSSSS))))))))), Barbie
The blossom of this poem opens like an inspiring revelation, which of course it is, and fills the reader with renewed appreciation for things both simple and rare.
I happened to have a CD playing called "Woodland Mists" as I turned to your poem.
You let us see it with your pictures, feel it with your words.
Only my nose is still hungry for what must be there.
Excellant Regis, as always.

This was a damned good poem, Mr. Auffray. The passion you feel within you was translated throughout your poem, and, as it ended with a resounding cresendo of a mortals plaintive prayer of survival, the poemm is complete.
Eyes that see and capture such beauty to so generously release its form in a magnificent chant portraying and honouring its spirit... are eyes that will, indeed, see the Lillies infinitely, because they perceive eternal rebirth. I feel humbled at the pure beauty visually and poetically flowing from this masterpiece, dear Regis.

My Dear Friend Regis,
I love photography and I have to say that this is one of the most inspiring images I've seen and I truly wish that I had been the one to click the shutter and capture this spectacular moment in time. It looks like a pastel painting. You have a gift, my friend!
I also need to say that your poem is a perfect complement to the picture and I have to wonder which came first, the photo or the poem. In any case, I really admire what you have created and shared with us here.
Thank you, Regis. This poem is as beautiful as the wild Easter lily you describe. They open wide to the sun, and then in the weight of their glory and praise, they bow down in a meditation of thanks. I pray with you, unceasingly...
Regis, you will see the lilies for many years to come and we will enjoy the beauty of your poetry.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem, it is so beautiful, sweet and touches the feelings. Happy Easter
