Those who read my poetry often ask how I can write limericks since they are so "alien" to what I normally express. For me, limericks are just silly fun and an escape; I believe that most of us are multi-faceted anyway.
Limericks XV
There once was a brave knight named Drake
He was always alert and awake
Some said he was ruthless
But they were proved clueless
He would not even make a lamb quake
They say there's a fool on the hill
Some say that he would like to kill
But these are just lies
When you look in his eyes
You can see that he bears no ill will
There once was a ghost named McDermit
He lived on a hill like a hermit
He seldom came down
To visit the town
But he did for his haunting permit
There once was a young mole named Joel
He wanted to climb up a pole
His inadequate feet
Did not permit this feat
So Joel the mole stayed in his hole
There once was a fellow from Cork
Folks said that he was a dork
But he proved them all wrong
When he wrote a song
And became the darling of York
There once was a fat goose named Moose
His favourite food was couscous
He loved to play cards
In the park with the bards
His most lucky card was the deuce
A would-be writer of sonnets
Can't tell them apart from nonets
His works have been banned
Right across the land
Now he spends all his time making bonnets
A man from the town of Kildare
Took a bear from its lair on a dare
And then quite by chance
He taught it to dance
Now together they make quite a pair
I once knew a gal named Joanne;
She drove a delivery van.
She was most efficient,
Which made it sufficient
For Joanne to exclaim, "Yes I can!"
There once was a hot dog vendor
Who drank and went on a bender
His fire went out
But he did not pout
He cooked on his vehicle's fender
Enticing me to review and keep reviewing these humorous limericks, I do get something out of each one of them, also, which is why I read on the den. Always can find something new to think about!

You are getting better and better with every Limerick you write, Reg! Many good smiles in these, my friend. Limericks (as with Ditties) are as much fun to write as to read :o)

There once was a fine poet named Regis.
Who was good a pruning back hedges.
With quick pen and paper.
He pulled of a fine caper.
And perfected the tops, sides and edges.
These are great Reg! Thank you for giving me a much needed smile tonight. I'm not quite sure which is my favorite, but as a writer, I guess I have to go with the "would-be writer of sonnets" :) .... you're very good with Limericks and they are always entertaining ~ Hugs, Elizabeth
I knew this Hermit Mc Dermit, he worked for me without permit,
bagpipes he blew with much fair, he was full of hot air, and so full of ...., ha, you figure, thanks for the amusement, Blessings!

And, your limericks are fun to read, Regis. You're also correct about most writers being multi-faceted; I've been known to write a limerick or two myself. ~leslie
And we all need to escape every once in a while. However, I think you've escaped to where I live. Not with "limericks," with "silly fun" NICE! LIKE IT! Dick King

I really liked all these limericks you are writing. They tell a story and they rhyme so well. I just don't know how you do that. Great job indeed!!
