No habit nun. Her pious prayer
was for the trees in Brazilian forests.
The poorest men had farms, land, seized.
A thousand folks slaughtered for love of trees.
Dorothy Stang, a motorcycle nun,
her habit torn, preferred simple clothes.
In the backwaters men with clubs, guns,
downed, killed the forests in the Amazon.
Tomorrow lies, the globe is warming,
where trees enchant, in Brazilian forests.
Society needs to lend a hand
so villagers save farms, trees and land.
To Sister Stang, who fought for the poor,
six shots in her chest, died for those trees.
