-- DIVINE BEAUTY --
John Herlihy
Spring always fills us with a sense of freshness,
The senses record the awakening world as new.
Our blessed world comes alive of its own accord,
To shed old skin just as the snake always knew.
We all respect and love this lovely time of year,
Birth of the butterfly, a dragonfly with its spear.
Not just eyes, ears listen to the clang of cow bell,
Sounding out the mysteries only nature can tell.
The cold feel of metal as we open a cattle gate,
Brightening horizon as we the rising sun await.
Light swallows shadows over dew-decked grass,
Soft waves of light that sparkle as frosted glass.
A landscape has a destiny only Nature can tell,
That will speak of a beauty that is divine as well.

We here in Portland are still waiting through a cold that rivals December - and no sign of spring yet. So thank you for this lovely poem that brought a ray of hope.
