I feel quite fortunate to have a number of trees in my yard. One of them in particular is bringing me smiles at the moment. For some reason it will not give up its leaves as the other trees have done. Although I have trees who will hold their leaves until the first frost, this is not one of them. So this is poem is for 'her'... yes I refer to the tree as a female...)
This piece is written as a tanka series.
Modesty
Amid barren arms
Of her naked companions
She jealously guards
Modesty, remaining clothed
Her glory fading and worn
She proudly displays
Tattered lace, falling hemlines
Shivering slightly
Beneath an indigo sky
Rippling within autumn's wind
But still her dress clings
Along those curvaceous lines
Of long outstretched arms
Painting shimmering patterns
In shadows of modesty
What a beautiful "feminine entity" she is. Thank you for introducing her to me, Myrna. I love trees. I've nurtured them since I was a child taught how to do so by my father. Love and peace to you,
You 'lady' tree has acquired the tenacious nature of its owner, Myrna Badgerow. She wouldn't dare lose her leaves until Myrna tells her that it is okay, and that the members of AD approve of her decision! ! !
The tree is nothing less than symbolic; it's the queen of the neighborhood, the head of all branches. Any day now, she will want you to incorporate her, and apply for a small business loan. You'd better keep a close eye on Lady Tree. She could be a sleeper, and surprise you after a big wind... to dance in the nude. Worse things have happened... and probably will.

Oh Yes... Your poem is a very good piece of clever writing; but you knew that.
This is so delicately lovely that I keep looking out my own window expecting to see one of my own trees with leafs still attached. The comparison is brilliant and so is your delivery. Excellant write my friend.
I have one of those ladies just outside the bay window in my kitchen too, Myrna, and her graceful growth has spared me much of the intense summer heat, provided the perfect spot for "shoes" of impatiens, pansies, and pachasandra. She's now surrounded by an irregular short snake of thinly stacked stone and those last leaves cling tenaciously to tall boughs. I remember planting her as a skinny child twenty something years ago. Beautiful personification.
