Season's changing almost goes by unnoticed here except for spring and winter who seem to play this endless game of 'Tag, you're it'.. I do hope you enjoy this tongue in cheek look at it.

Pulling the Covers

Spring comes early to the bayou
Rubbing the sleep from its eyes
With clenched fist in mild defiance
Of alarm clocks that ring too soon
To awaken mosquito dragons.
Even wasps are confused and become
Misguided missiles with aim not yet true
In search of meaningful targets.
Ants begin to remodel meager hills
Into two-story condos with palatial views.

Dirt shakes free from dormant seeds
As Spring plays 'pull the covers'
On plants clearly not in the mood
For such games while grass greens
In wicked anticipation of groaning
Lawn mowers not ready for the weekly
Chore and weeds, obstinate little devils,
Giggle in 'kill me if you can' mode...

But then Winter flexes waning muscles
And sends a chill that leaves the bayou
In feigned frustration... and Spring
Tosses the alarm clock against Winter's
Wall, mutters something like 'wish it
Would make up my mind',
And pulls the covers back over its head.

Weeds and grass chuckle, giving Mother Nature
A salute, enjoying the game she plays
With seasons and man...
While the bayou simply sighs...
"Here we go again"

Myrna, I like the way you have anthropomorphized nature and the bayou in this most excellent and humorous write. Those "obstinate little weeds" always thumb their noses at me.... Well done!

So clever Myrna...might Spring and Winter compromise over a snooze alarm...allowing at least fifteen more uninterrupted minutes of the 'tween time? Better set it to buzz and not awaken to music...they would never agree on the radio station or the music. In the mean time, those silly old ants are settled in condo bliss and inviting folks over for a swim...ready for summer on the Bayou so Winter can show off all those muscles. Maybe the eclipse will throw them all for a loop.

Love,

Taylor

Sassy tongue-in-cheek look as low water venue changes seasons. Your words bring that sleepy bit of nature into busy and purposeful activity. It's a great way of letting us know how life keeps happening down your way. It's obvious that you've studied and love your environment, Keen Author. My repeated reading makes me chuckle and smile! - Bill
