Louis Ucheitelle has an excellent article in the NY Times. The above article explains the poor quality of statistics used today, because of changes in the Job market. Using a employment survey of Corporations does not account the elimination of Jobs from outsourcing of production--not just Overseas, but through sub-contracting. The Household survey does not account Part-Time employment and underemployment. Real Wages are said to have increased, but this comes from the Corporate survey, where the remaining labor force has been getting pay raises.
The necessary Survey to determine Job growth or decline remains IRS disclosure of withholding taxes on hours worked. The total number of hours divided by 40 would give a comparative evaluation of number of full-time jobs. This would be a very gross figure, but Household survey could determine how many of these Jobs were split into Part-Time labor. Real Wage increase of decrease could be computed by IRS variances of listed hours devided by total withholding taxes sent in. lgl.
