Florida has sustained $30b of loss from the Hurricane. Insurance companies have used Bush rewriting of regulations to cut their recompensation of Homeowners to one-third that of the aftermath of Hrricane Andrew. FEMA and the Federal Government will find it impossible to get money to Floridians in sufficient amounts prior to the Election. Previous example of Homeowner and Business response to such delays is a loss of Voter support for the incumbent Administration. Brother Jeb cannot save the State this time.
Florida Homeowners are likely to live in Federal Tent cities for the months prior to the Election. This will not produce a great love for either Bush or the Federal Government. Insurance payments have decreased since Hurricane Andrew, due often to Republican support to curtailing Insurance liabilities. Federal and State payments for disaster relief have also diminished greatly, due to Republican-inspired regulation. The speed at which what Federal payments are made has been slowing dramatically, as Federal agencies involved become more bureaucratic. Bush has likely lost 100% of all Democratic Hurricane victims, 100% of all poor Hurricane victims who cannot endure replacement of the damage, and 80% of all Republican Hurricane victims who will not be paid in real time or with real relief largesse.
The Bush administration is also trying to shift focus away from Iraq, the Deficit, the slowing economy, and decreasing Federal services, through attempting to call for Tax reform. The lack of Job creation will negate any appeal for tax reform. People must be making money which is potentially taxable, before they become innately concerned with tax reform. They will concentrate on a supply of Jobs which come only with less Pay, higher Oil prices, and a situation which is coming to resemble the Vietnam of 1965. George W. Bush faces a reelection scenario similiar to Abraham Lincoln in 1864, with an unpolular war still taking its toll without seeming end, while enduring economic times equivalent to Grant. Is George W. Bush as historic a Hero as the two mentioned above? The Election will probably decide. lgl
