Surrendering to God's Plans 4/14/2008 8:15:39 AM
Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. (Ps. 40:5)
This verse and many others like it, have been such an encouragement to me these past few weeks. When I think of where I was and where I am now, I just want to shout to the world about the goodness and glory of God. Don't you just love it when you hear a verse that talks about God's plan for us? For example, we have Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the PLANS I have for you," declares the Lord. "PLANS to prosper you and not harm you, PLANS to give you hope and a future." God has PLANS for us! Definite wonderful PLANS! But, how many times have you and I managed to thwart those plans? How many times have you heard that still small voice telling you to do something (or not do something) and you've ignored it? Or, perhaps like me, God has started you on a totally different career/ministry path then you are used to. I was a singer for over 30 years, with a ministry that blessed me and I hope blessed others. However, eight years ago the Lord decided to end that ministry. At first I thought He was punishing me, that I had done something wrong. Now, I realize His plans are different than my plans. In order for me to surrender completely to God, I needed to be at a very low point. Losing my voice - (my identity really), was a very low point for me. When I finally let go and surrendered everything to God (as opposed to begging to give me my voice back!), He started me on the writing path. Little did I know that it would lead to a novel.
I used to be afraid of what God might plan for me, what He might ask of me. In fact, when I found out I was to be interviewed on national televsion, I was very afraid. It's easier to sing and get lost in someone else's words, then to stumble over my own! But, at just the right moment I was filled with God's peace. All my doubts faded away as I saw in the blink of an eye, why I had suffered the loss of my voice. God had a plan! He has one for you too. All you need to do is surrender and He will take care of the rest!
