What do you do for writer's block 6/26/2008 3:02:39 PM
So, what do you do when you are stumped and no more words are coming out of your head to finish your manuscript? Here are some suggestions:
1. I check to make sure my writing environment hasn't become stifling. Maybe I need to write outside today or in a coffee shop, anywhere for more inspiration.
2. I look at my emotions. Has anything stressful be going on? I had one friend die of cancer recently about two months after my cat died and now my daughter is getting ready to go to college in the fall. Am I stressed? A little! So, what do you do when stress is piling up on you? My form of release is video games (yes - I said video games!), or I go shopping (my poor husband hates that option) or watch a movie, etc. You get the picture - anything to relax.
3. I look at my health in general. Eat right, go for a walk, get proper sleep. I usually only do about one of those! Ha! But I get serious sometimes and actually do all three when it helps my writing.
4. Finally, the most important one of all - I pray! Perhaps God has something else He wants me to do or write. So, I try to be attentive to the still small voice of our great wonderful God.
