Confession - is it good for the soul? 7/10/2008 12:29:40 PM
A number of weeks ago I wrote a blog on forgiveness and the importance of forgiving yourself. As I stated previously, if you can't forgive yourself then you are going to have a hard time believing that you have been forgiven by the One who died for you and offered you a clean slate in the first place.
But what else is there to forgiveness? There is confession. You know the saying,"confession is good for the soul"? Well, it's true - it is good for the soul. It's good for your mental, physical and spiritual well-being. There is a reason Jesus says, "Come to me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." He offers you an incredible peace, but you probably have something standing in the way of that peace, if you've forgiven yourself for your past than you are only lacking one thing - confession.
Think of it like this - Jesus is your pipeline to heaven. Remember He said this: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me." (John 14:6) So, if your pipeline is clogged with junk (unconfessed sin), then you are going to have a problem coming into the presence of God. You need to get down on your knees and confess everything you've ever done wrong to God and to anyone else.
Why? He knows it already, so why do I have to confess my sins? I already told you - confession is good for the soul! Imagine the release you will feel to get that burden of guilt off your back. Bring it to the Lord - confess it to Him. Acknowledge to Him what you did, that you didn't just hurt those around you, but you hurt Him too. Confess your sin and then ask Him to forgive you and you know what? That pipeline that was full of sludge will be suddenly cleansed and washed and you will feel brand new!
Those burdens you are carrying around will be gone! You are cleansed by the power of the Lord.
Then what? Then comes repentance and I'll talk about that the next time I blog.
