Through The Storm by Robert P. Robertson 4/11/2008 5:36:19 AM
The Mississippi River is overflowing from Illinois to Louisiana. Watching the water at the roofs of the houses, especially a house floating in the river and crashing into a bridge gave me a harsh reminder of what I saw during the massive flooding caused by hurricane Katrina. The overflowing of the Mississippi River from Illinois to Louisiana gave me a harsh reminder of the massive flooding I saw caused by hurricane Katrina. The only difference is, no one saw it coming in New Orleans on August 29, 2005. I'll never forget the white-capped waves rushing up the street; people scrambling from their cars to climb to the roofs of them; and the water gushing up through the floor boards of our house. It was haunting for me to see the people in Illinois, Tennessee, and Mississippi struggling to save their possessions, thern to see their homes immersed in ten to fifteen feet of water. Incredibly, I heard one flood victim say that he was evacuating to here in New Orleans! However, New Orleans has a long history of learning from its disasters, and I believe there will never be another Katrina-like flooding event here for the next hundred years.
