Gustav is not quite the rain maker i thought itnwould be. Just like its name, however, it very gusty. Winds are blowing very strong, and the storm surge has caused the canals to swell to the point of overtopping the levee at the Industrial Canal here in the Ninth Ward. I'm about a mile away from it. The worse case is if the overtopping scores the earth and loosen the floodwalls from beneath like it did during Katrina's storm surge. Our so-called leaders are touting the fact that nearly the whole city has evacuated, but I see a lot of journalists riding around and walking around in rhe storm. If evacuating is the act of getting out of harm's way, why the hell are they here? I don't understand that. For the next storm, I might get a press pass and that way I can safely avoid evacuation and curfews. While outside wiring my generator, one stopped in a car and asked me why haven't I evacuated. I asked him why are you here asking me this dumb assed question! Now trhat Gustav has made landfall, it'll be a day or so for the power to return. Atleast we still have gas and water.
