Just like new Orleans is the poster-child for flood disaster in the Southeast, Cedar Rapids is the poster-child for flood disaster in the Midwest. The same ugly situations of flood damage, the evacuations, the check-points, the same dieposits of ruined goods, the sentiments of the people, and next, the people's disenchantment with their political leaders is the litmus of what's happening here in New Orleans. The media calls it the Midwest's Katrina. But Katrina was a hurricane that did the damage to New Orleans before the storm surge exposed the substandard levees that we were led to believe were strong. The situation in the Midwest is like echoes of a bad dream for us here in New Orleans. Besides the disillusionment with political leaders, there will be angre and resentment with insurance companies for those who had insurance other than the National Flood Insurance. One good thing, the NFI will thoroughly honor its claims, but I could hear the distant rumbling of the stampede of other insurance companies running for cover to prevent honoring theirs. For everyone in the Midwest READ THROUGH THE STORM!to get a heads up on what YOU will face when the waters begin to rise.
