The water will copletely recede in Cedar Rapids in the next two days. It's curious to me why inspectors would have to go in the homes of the residents there to make sure it is safe for the residents to return as if the residents there are helpless and unable to ensure their own safety. It was the same here in New Orleans when the police and National Guards were forcing people to evacuate weeks after the events had passed. That was one of the reasons I had refused to evacuate because I knew that I could ensure the safety of myself and my family. I remember on September 11, 2005 when I was confronted with two battallions of national guards who had surrounded my home and we engaged in a heated discussion about evacuation. I saw them popping open security doors and entering homes, the same way i saw those inspectors in Cedar Rapids entering people's homes. It's as if they treat us as little children who are unable to care for ourselves. I had protected my family from August 29th to September 11th. We had water and food to last us another month. Were it not for their knowing we were there and the harrassment they would confront us with, we would have held on to recovery. But I hated like hell that our government had handled us like we were domesticated animals as if we need to be fed, watered, housed, and led for our own safety. That is not America and that is not what Americans are made from. We were a resilient, resourceful, and self-reliant people. The human spirit has never been supressed by hardship nor disaster, natural or man-made, and we need to rediscover that American spirit.
