Heavy Metal and Dark Literature 12/16/2003 4:48:39 AM
for the love of heavy metal.
If one wonders when reading my writing on the Den what was in my CD player when I wrote some of them. It is an easy answer if one came to talk to me online or read some of my poetry. Pantera's Far Beyond Driven was in the player when I penned "Bones" and then some goth cds when I wrote "Among Shadows." When I wrote "Sands" -- the most obscure piece in my catalog, it was when I would be playing some Disturbed. Being that I am from Chicago -- it is a heavy metal town. Where I have the tendicity to write really heavy, I write along with the guitars. Then Black Sabbath had some influence in that because I got reading H.P. Lovecraft after listening to Black Sabbath and older Metallica. Where you see the connection of heavy metal and horror literature as in form of Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft, then a bit of Edgar Allan Poe. Just seems like heavy metal music and dark literature are a perfect marriage -- look at the track by Iron Maiden, off Powerslave. What I do is very disarming because they don't expect a long hair to write what I am writing, and especially do it with tenacity that would get the readers saying, "Oh. my. God." Any time when someone starts a comment like that -- that is the kind of comment that would make an impact on a horror writer. That is the kind of writer that is set out to rule the world.
