All who die for freedom's sake do so to allow us to 'better' ourselves. Let their deaths not in vain.
********************************
I hear a child crying--embraced, his ma dying--
feel their empty tummies.
Shed a tear for children . . .if no one else cares . . . be there
like the troupes at Normandy
who died for both you and me.
Some teach children to steal--that garbage is a meal--
some live on the dark streets.
Shed a tear family . . . if no one else cares . . . be there
like the troupes at Normandy
who died so we could be free.
Who puts guns in their hands, ne’er helps them understand
the way living should be.
Shed a tear for strangers . . . if no one else cares . . . be there
like the troupes at Normandy
who died both for you and me.
Medical care is nil, some curse, do evil’s will,
parents have no control.
Shed a tear for world peace . . . if no one else cares . . . be there
like the troupes at Normandy
who died so we could be free.
When they steal their first car--sneak them into a bar--
alcohol’s their reward.
Shed a tear for soldiers . . . if no one else cares . . . be there
like the troupes at Normandy
who died for both you and me.
When folks wind up in jail, sell dope to pay their bail . . .
fool yourself. Say, “All’s well.”
Shed a tear for innocence . . . if no one else cares . . . be there
like the troupes at Normandy
who died so we could be free.
When our guidance is grim and the future dreams dim,
pray for what might have been
. . . if not for Normandy.
