Sinkin’ in a mire of mud,
chewin’ crud.
No roof o’erhead,
the walls on the ground--
one foot in my grave . . .
the other, earth bound.
Quick flashes of light
tore through the twilight.
Zapping things zipped
throughout the night . . .
bodies sinkin’ and stinkin’
in mounds caused by war.
Stinkin’, freakin’, playing dead.
Oh . . . my head.
Too long been fighin’,
tried of this beatin’
might as well lay down . . .
manner of speakin.’
Quick flashes of light
tore through the twilight.
Zapping things zipped
throughout the night . . .
bodies sinkin’ and stinkin’
in mounds caused by war.
Stinkin’, sinkin’ I can’t see
if the end's nigh.
Angels gather ‘round--
fly their banners high--
sharing their mercy
as ammo whizzes by.
Quick flashes of light
tore through the twilight.
Zapping things zipped
throughout the night . . .
bodies sinkin’ and stinkin’
in mounds caused by war . . .
Great write Sandra, Proper, for our present times.

senseless is right! I'd encourage all people to think it over...and then, should it occur to their senses that this is senseless, write their representatives. Thanks for taking the glamour out of it!
