A CARPENTER’S MOTTO

I’m level on the level.

Centered and square.

My measurements are right,

And I lumber everywhere.

What I see, I saw.

I work with tongue in groove

And with a little grit,

My rough edges become smooth.

I never go against the grain,

Every corner is cut true .

To keep things together,

I’ll nail, screw, or glue.

I can be knotty,

Or just plane nice.

I know the drill,

And I’m always precise.

I have support in my joists.

No sag, no sway.

Sturdy and strong,

I’m just plumb O.K.
