Novembers of My Youth

Not quite a hell raiser but a heck of trouble as
a teen for my parents it all seemed to begin in
November after school got underway with
confinement the order of the day for a week
After sleeping eight hours it was up and at'm
for chores around the house helping family to
operate all day and the school rules and more
rules with few liberty hours before supper's
dish washing intense studying and sleep
Summer was history and no time for doing
things I wanted to do on colder days but
we stacked wood for cooking and warmth
Thanksgiving for kids was four days of
fixings and relatives bringing food and pies
Thursday was ideal for an eating holiday
allowing grownups to recover and leave
A city girl visiting one Turkey Day took a
short walk with me past Lee's pasture into
Terrell's barn for good reason to be thankful
