A Day's Retreat


A kind soft breeze washed away the heat of early evening as
we sipped ice tea and waited for the sun to sink into darkness.

Neither had spoken for minutes - a gift to the other while
we filled tired body parts with sweet purity of the moment.

Ours was a pleasant friendship not using conversation in
our communicating which pleased us in an accepted silence.

We shared and stared at the half-sun blazing its majestic
colors in a goodnight as it disappeared in a color panorama

With anticipation a few minutes of waiting reward us with
creature sounds taking stage in orchestrated twilight voices

The beauty of nature's sounds were gently disturbed as the
audience refilled tea glasses and two lives with rare fullness
