In god we trust
one under god
it seems so strange
it seems quite odd
these simple lines
elicit heated emotion
from those who disbelieve
the notion
for if god is gone
or is not there
why do you fight
why should you care
do you also hate
the make believe
or what the man
has up his sleeve
do you shadow box
or beat the air
do you always fight
what isn’t there
you love to claim
supreme intelligence
yet morally you ride the fence
your smug stance
always seems so odd...
do you stealthily believe
there is a god
I find it odd that those who claim disbelief in god spend so much effort fighting what they claim, by definition, does not exist. I for one, have no time to fight for or against god, nor the concept of god‘s existence. For if god is god by nature, it is doubtful he requires my assistance. If god does not exist, it is doubtful my energy would be well spent. Both sides all too often need to chill. These are the simple observations from a nonreligious (me) observer. I am not poking fun at anyone’s faith, to the contrary, I respect people of faith... maybe I am the only one who laughs at the nonreligious, the atheists, the secularists... To those who do believe, do you really think a decision from the 9th Circuit Court can shake god? If you can, laugh with me.

I truly love this poem, it is honest, and real to the light of the world. To share this is to care, to love, is always to rise above. You truly show your divine light.
I agree and laugh with you. I continue to advocate the right of patriotism to survive. This great country was founded on the belief of God (whatever term you use for him)and the freedom of religion (whatever type that might be). What happened to it?
Great Poem! :)

Lori your logic is what is sadly lacking in this world today. Religious and non-religious are guilty of it. You have shown a true spirit that I respect. Your questions are ones I have raised also. It is a fact that too many people choose to remain tgnorant, and therein lies the real problem. Ignorance of other peoples beliefs has always led to upheaval and , .wars when simple logic as you have shown here could resolve differences, and allow us to live in peace with respect for one another. In the final analysis each person must find their own individual way.
lori,,,,excellent write. the poetry flowed well. the questions you posed were true.

Hi Lori,
I have never disclosed my belief's to any one not even in the army, even when ordered to do so,got me into a lot of trouble, but I never gave in.
You have just reminded me of those days.
All the best.

Totally a different write from you Lori...so good to see artists in different genres branch out in expression of opinion and beliefs. You have done well in this expression. Peace be with you.

Great words of wisdom, Lori. You are right on target about this. For me, this whole thing was never an issue. Nietzsche said it very well:
Have you not heard of that madman who lit a lantern in the bright morning hours, ran to the market-place, and cried incessantly: "I am looking for God! I am looking for God!"
As many of those who did not believe in God were standing together there, he excited considerable laughter. Have you lost him, then? said one. Did he lose his way like a child? said another. Or is he hiding? Is he afraid of us? Has he gone on a voyage? or emigrated? Thus they shouted and laughed. The madman sprang into their midst and pierced them with his glances.
"Where has God gone?" he cried. "I shall tell you. We have killed him - you and I. We are his murderers. But how have we done this? How were we able to drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon? What did we do when we unchained the earth from it's sun? Whither is it moving now? Whither are we moving now? Away from all suns? Are we not perpetually falling? Backward, sideward, forward, in all directions? Is there any up or down left? Are we not straying as through an infinite nothing? Do we not feel the breath of empty space? Has it not become colder? Is it not more and more night coming on all the time? Must not lanterns be lit in the morning? Do we not hear anything yet of the noise of the gravediggers who are burying God? Do we not smell anything yet of God's decomposition? Gods too decompose. God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves? That which was the holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet possessed has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? With what water could we purify ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we not ourselves become gods simply to be worthy of it? There has never been a greater deed; and whosoever shall be born after us - for the sake of this deed he shall be part of a higher history than all history hitherto."
A naïve councilman and a down-on-her-luck single mom try to save their county’s last stand of forest from greedy developers and a dysfunctional government.
