One of my favorite songs, written by George Harrison, but was best presented at Woodstock by Richie Havens… Here Comes the Sun among many references to the sun in poetry like yours and song. The sun also has become the icon for CBS Sunday Morning that I watch whenever I can.
As for your reference to rest. I take time out mid day like a mad Englishman and go out in the midday sun to recline, shield my eyes, and soak up the blazing sun's rays for about 10 minutes to soak up some vitamin D and very gradually develop a protective tan. In case I ever have to use it. The respite from my busy schedule is also appreciated.
Unfortunately, while the sun provides about the same energy to the earth every year, the atmosphere soaks up more of this energy in the form of heat and all of us are suffering during summertime in the temperate zones where the consequences of not paying attention to our sun. Burning fossil fuels to replace its power instead of continuing to use it more.
