I sat down and did a bunch of writing over the weekend. 5 new flash fictions, and I tuned up two or three older stories.
I got some submissions sent out, to FlashShot, Cafe Irreal, Martian Wave, Champagne Shivers, and Book of Dark Wisdom. And queried on some submissions that have gotten stale.
The biggest stale one out there are two whole story collections (100,000 words total) that have not had a response in almost 2 years now. If I can get those back, I'm tempted to self-publish them, probably on Lulu.com. Seems like that's the best market for those these days, and since most of the stories have already been published, I'm not sidestepping "the process". It's not the usual mistake of rushing a rough draft into print just to make myself feel good. Since I write primarily short stories, it looks like it falls on me to collect them and make them available in a convenient form.
Likewise, I have four poetry chapbooks that I've had no luck finding homes for. I reformatted one of them to digest size, and was bummed to see my old introduction from 2001 -- I almost printed it back then, but probably told myself "why bother?" Again it seems like I should print them myself. The vast majority of chapbook markets are contests, and that whole process just seems silly. "Why not?" is a more helpful attitude.
