That project was a real battle to get done. On to the next ... I started on the visual f/x for "the Siberians". I just have to add smoke coming out of the iron stove in almost every shot. And some fiery glow and flames where needed. I like doing this in post -- I can put exactly as much smoke as I want. I can disturb the digital smoke whenever someone makes a sudden move close to it. In one shot, a character leans forward to look down into the flames, and the smoke flattens out when it hits his forehead. Very subtle effects, but fun to rig up. It sure does eat up a lot of hard drive space ... I cleared out 18 gigs of older projects onto DVDs to make room for more work. Never enough space.
I was at a charity Scrabble contest over the weekend. Won a few games, got eliminated. But it was all for the local literacy campaign, and I got to check out the meeting room at the library, which is where I want to do film screenings.
Looks like our acting/improv group is getting together on Thursday, first time since November. They get to see the latest footage. And we can start narrowing down our next projects. A lot of energy there, when we're all at the same place & time.
