So many blogs, so little time. As a phenomenon, blogs came out of left field and surprised everyone. They're now more widely trusted as sources of news than the major news media. to a degree, the news media shot themselves in the foot by focusing on just the negative, and suggesting conspiracies everywhere by looking the wrong way most of the time. In comparison, blogs are completely unchecked, and there's no reason to trust anything written by "some stranger somewhere", but we trust them anyway.
I only have a few blogs, like this one, and try to keep them reasonably focused. This one is about the writing life. So when I wasn't writing much, there wasn't much to say. Now, comically, I have 75 submissions out there that I'm waiting for ... whole days go by without hearing anything. Almost seems impossible, but there it is. Sure, some percentage of those submissions vanished into the ether, but I believe that most were received. A few do send autoresponses, saying the mail has arrived -- those are a blessing.
My Analog story came and went with the July/Aug issue. A few small sales. Waiting for more. A newsletter is pending in the next few days, so I won't do a summary here.
Now to make the rounds and get those other blogs up to date. It's so easy to post things on the web, but still, I see over 70,000 hits here on AuthorsDen netting a mere $9.95 in sales ($2 for me). Does the web really add up? Seems like there are a few rare cases of success online, and a whole lot of people who don't know one way or the other. I'm seeing 50,000 to 100,000 hits per sale, which is just depressing. Still, we keep going ... onwards and sideways!
