True Snow 1/23/2012 1:43:28 PM
I was running on the thread mill in the gym when I saw small droplets of something outside the window. I wonder if it was rain or snow. I didn’t mind it. I continued on walking and watched the television. (The TV was attached to the thread mill.) But when I finished, I looked outside and indeed, it was snowing. There was a sense of joy (because the sight was beautiful) but also a sense of apprehension. I remembered the many times I almost had an accident because of snow. But the gravest one, when I had an accident was when I was 17. I was walking in the snow singing and watching them fall. In the light, snow was magical. So, I cross a path and right at the entrance to a strip mall, I was hit, my first accident. The rest were “almost” accidents.
When I went out of the gym I was still deciding to go to the Greater Trumps. But the intensity of the snow persuaded me to head home. I drove slowly and carefully. Normally, it would take me only 5 minutes or so to reach home. But this time, it took me 15-20 minutes to do so. Roads were slippery but not yet so slippery that my car would stall. The snow was getting thick quite quickly.
Too bad, I didn’t do my grocery. These were times when I wish I could have. Who knows, tomorrow might be a worse day for snow. But the forecast said that it will rain for the rest of the week. I started to prepare my pasta dish – just pasta and tomato sauce, that’s it. There was no meat to enhance it. But I discovered that there were still dried soups I purchase a few days ago. Yay. So, I prepared that instead plus popcorn. Popcorn was delicious with soup. That’s it, soup and popcorn. I didn’t have any bread, either. So my Nutella is of no use.
After my humble dinner, Mom called. She said that Hector had an operation, my sister’s blood pressure was high and she was still sick. She didn’t have the chance to exercise because it was so cold outside. Hector was operated on the nose because doctors found a polyp. I guess that was cancerous. My sister, learning about it accompanied Hector to his operation. Mom complained that my sister did not want mom to be driving her around because mom makes her sick. But mom says that my sister would rather have the company of Hector or Taylor. Then mom shifted emphasis from my sister to prayer. She said to say a prayer for my sister specially requesting God to take care of her when during mass when the priest raises the chalice and the host that was the time to request it. She even asked me to recite “Angel of God”. I, like a child, grudgingly said yes.
After her call, I saw through my window an animal running across my neighbor’s front yard. I thought that it was a raccoon. It fascinated me. I also thought that there was an animal lodging by the bushes by my window. (The next morning, I confirmed that there was an animal. Its tracks were all over the snow.) I took three scoops of a spoonful of Nutella and sat outside. It was just that I ate my Nutella and watched the snow like a child in wonder and amazement. At last I’m at home safe and sound, away from accidents. And I for one am sitting cozy that today, the first snow storm came and here I am, lost in thought.
