Predicament: A Pimple of my Nose 3/17/2012 7:27:45 PM
I have a pimple on my nose. It started this morning when I was looking at the mirror and there it was a red blemish, devolving into an absolute red humpback right of the very tip. It has not yet accumulated some puss. In fact, sometimes, the pimple forms into a point wherein puss accumulates and could explode like a volcano or it would subside and then totally disappear. But at this stage, it was not yet noticeable.
When I was young, I had a lot of pimples, especially in the temples. (Nothing really on my nose. If that would occur, my friends would tease me “Rudolph.” I know this because I had friends who were teased as such.) I would get my identification card or a thin cardboard and scrap it just like so and blackheads would ooze from it, if not puss. I would think that everyone of them pimples was gone, but not so. Pimples would grow in their place. I had a very oily skin, then so that pimples were a natural progression.
Pimples were a bigger problem, then. It was not world peace or injustice that was in the forefront of a teenager’s daily life. It was pimples; for how would you present yourself to your friends or for that matter, how could you be as attractive when you court a girl. Even though you might have the looks, zits will somehow overtake your good looks. So you would understand why to a teenager, pimples were a bigger problem.
I had a classmate who had a massive attack of pimples. His face was all covered with zits that he applied some ointment to it. My sister had one, too that no matter and whatever ointment she applied, it doesn’t work. She had to go to a doctor to remedy the situation. I would say that it was with age that it disappears. But zits were a bigger problem then so a solution must be found.
I remember when friends, older friends discuss this subject matter. My godmother for one had pimples; and she was a beautiful lady. Her sister teased her even up until they were old. I was in my early twenties, then. They were discussing that she had zits when they were young, with my mom. Even though they had aged, the discussion ensued. The sister of my godmother tried to ostracize her and I don’t know how my godmother felt about it. Everything was taken in good stride, though.
They say that it boils down to good facial hygiene. But even though how often I wash my face and no matter how clean I keep my face, pimples still grew. I supposed that on occasions, zits will occur especially when I eat oily food, like peanuts and such. I shall suffer the curse of the zits.
But at this stage in my life, I haven’t heard anyone teasing me about it. After all, pimples are not discussed. I guess I have outgrown that and my colleagues have relegated that discussion to teenage concerns. As long as my zits is hidden and not noticed, I’m safe; otherwise, even though my friends would notice it, they would not say a word about it but would think that I have not kept my face clean.
No matter, at whatever age one is in, zits would be a topic explicitly or implicitly discussed. After all, it’s part of growing up.
