I feel so unworthy of my blessings in light of the devastation from Katrina. Today September 12, 2005…I am sitting here on the floor of my new apartment in Napa, CA where I chose to relocate. I arrived safe and sound, with the help of my Brother sharing the drive across country from Atlanta, Ga, via the northern route to begin my new life…to work toward living my creative live.
My furniture and the rest of my belongings won’t be here until next week, but I have a new bedroom set, a couple folding chairs, my clothes, some basics, and…mostly my dog Bear with me. I am very blessed, yet feel so unworthy…especially in the light of what is happening to so many in the South.
I spent some time last night and today reading online (I don’t have a TV) via CNN, ABC News, and Oprah’s website about the devastation down South after Katrina. I am reading about all those well-known and those without famous names who are helping there and across the country. I wonder what I can do to help, besides writing a check.
I have a townhome for sale in GA and wish I was financially able to give it to someone from the South who might like to live in Alpharetta, (just north of Atlanta).
As it is, unless it sells and closes within the next week or so, I will have to pay a mortgage, a home owners association fee, the utilities for that home, AND my new rent and utilities for the month of October.
I feel so bad that I am not able to do something really wonderful for someone. I did find that I was able to at least donate my Delta frequent flyer miles to American Red Cross to help fly someone down there to assist. That still seems so little.
I can and do pray for those victims and all who are helping them. I thank God for my blessings, and pray for many blessings for the victims and those doing whatever they can to help.
