On the road promoting Convergence
Alhtough it was purely a busines trip visiting several towns along the seacoast promoting Convergence, I did take some time to or reflection of what is really out there.
Although I have a soft spot for Southport, Jacksonville was quite interesting. Along the highway leading to Jax, the fields were teeming with blueberry bushes, their branches being deftly stripped of their sweet sapphire fruits. I should have stopped for a bucket or two, but there were things to do and places to be.
On to New Bern - my first visit to this intriguing city. There was nothing in particular that stood out, but I felt comfortable there - as if the city was welcoming me.
Then slong the road home, a visit to the CSS Neuse memorial. A fine ship as she was, but a sordid history left her little for the history books outside of being the sacrificial target to assist the evacuation of Kinston. All that remains of her is the salvaged hull, a few timbers idetifying where the boiler and propellers were, and the century old smell of her timbers as they sat on a makeshift stand. The history behind the ill-fated iron-clad is thin, but there may be a bit of an old Civil War story behind her.
Perhaps the same spark that started Convergence!
