Caution - AMC musing (remember the old car - it's a Rambler!) Looking for inspiration, I dug into some old files. Like looking into a mirror, I started wondering what intrigued me enough to spend countless hours chapping away at the keyboard with dreams of that this one would be the best seller that would put my name on the NYT bestseller list.
Years later, it is now clear that looking back, I was too naive since I believed these works would roll off the presses to the enjoyment of thousands of rabid readers without the drudgery of edits after edits after edits, followed by rejection after rejection.
Interestingly enough, the older ones are yellowed paper in a dusty box and the more recent works are instead electronic files from an old word processor that need to be converted to a more updated software package.
But perhaps the more important thing now, was that these ideas were born of desire to write, and tell a story, regardless of who would or would not read it. The pure enjoyment of the creation, the sense of elation when the lines flowed into paragraphs into pages into chapters.
Looking back, the seeds from those now pitifully looking pieces of writing have blossomed into something even more that I could have imagined - the pure joy of writing.
