Hosed that up too! If first blog entries are supposed to be prophetically deep, moving experiences, and filled with uncontrollable giggle evoking wit, well I'll hose up this beginning as well. In fact, where do I begin (with regard to Erich Segal) seems to be what usually sends me into writer's block faster than an oil dry engine. Instead, floundering around for days that linger into weeks and months has slowed down my ultimate dream of ten best sellers before I check out for good.
Perhaps blogging is the therapy needed to work through blocks. Capture your thoughts in electronic media for future research on random thought patterns? Just great - a change management plan for how to more effectively waste time!
Well, then, remedial floundering on beginnings. The block, perhaps the excuse for procrastination for the day is beginnings. What will be the next project, what title to use, how to begin the work, and where it will go based on the start seem to consume my thoughts for too long - look into your heart and write.
The debate rages - sequal to the last, jump ahead to what chronologically would be the sequal to the sequal, or do something completely different. The blockbuster that was supposed to spread my name like wildfire remains smouldering like a forgotten campfire. And seeing how fast Hillary's bio has taken off stirs jealousy - yeah, that's it, the green eyed monster attacks again. I know the book is good, everyone who has read it says that it's great, it crosses bounds for a wide readership, reviews are sparkling . . . but it remains pitifully slow - like my own book of the month club - one book sold per month.
"Quit whining and get to work," the voice inside calls out. "Wou write because you love to write, not because you must become the next Haley or Hemmingway."
Coffee has kicked in, sun's out, and the fog has lifted. Time to dig in and and get to work. Sci Fi or His Fic today? Catchy title or intriguingly simple? Start at the start or just start and figure out where it fits in when the threads begin to mesh and weave the story?
