Earlier this year, I subscribed to receive the daily scripture verse e-mail offered by the Christian radio station KLOVE. I did so as a means to create another opportunity to absorb God’s word. Each day a scripture verse is delivered via e-mail to my mailbox for me to read and meditate on. Amid all of the other e-mails that I am drowned with on a regular basis, I look forward to receiving the messages that simply contain God’s Word.
On one particular day, the Scripture verse I received was Psalm 73:24 (NLT) which reads, “You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.” After reading the verse, I stopped to ponder its meaning. I read it a second time. Again, I stopped and pondered. I read it yet a third time, stating out loud, “Wow!” I was absolutely captured by this verse.
Reading it a fourth time, I sat amazed. To think that God guides me with His counsel - Incredible! The God of the Universe makes himself available to guide me (and you) with His counsel. This is the same God who created all things. This is the same God who has no beginning and no end. This is the same God who is everywhere at all times, knows everything there is to know and who is all-powerful; yet He guides me (and you) with His counsel.
But he doesn’t stop there. No, there is more. He has a purpose and he has a plan. God Almighty guides me with his counsel for the purpose of leading me to a glorious destiny. From the NIV translation, Psalm 73:24 reads, “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.” Afterward - what a comforting thought. Once my existence on earth is over, after all that this life produces has come to a close, there is more and it is glorious.
So why is the destiny glorious? It is glorious because pain and suffering are over. It is glorious because tears are a thing of the past. It is glorious because sin is no more. It is glorious because all that is beautiful and awesome in this life will be but a mere shadow in comparison to the awe and beauty in eternity. It is glorious because death has been forever conquered. But most emphatically, it is glorious because He is there!
