If any of you are American Idol fanatics like I am, you may have noticed something about last week’s show that was unprecedented. Although it has crept in a time or two before, last week’s show was chalked full. If you didn’t notice, you’re wondering at this point, “Chalked full of what?” Well, let me tell you. The show was chalked full of praise. Didn’t you notice it? I sure did. And how refreshing was THAT! Song after song gave praise to our Lord Jesus Christ. And when the singing and music were over, his name was still being honored. Who would have thought?
This brings me to another interesting observation. I’ve noticed in the last 10 years or so, more and more believers in the entertainment industry are opening up about their faith in Christ, no longer keeping it under wraps. The awkwardness of announcing to the world that Christ gets the glory for an Oscar win seems to have left the building. Voice-overs for audio Bibles, movies like Passion Of The Christ and One Night With The King, along with Christian television interviews are bringing to the spotlight individuals who had previously kept their identity in Christ out of the public eye, until now.
So what has changed? Why is it becoming increasingly popular for those in the entertainment industry to confidently proclaim Christ? Is it just a fad that will vanish as quickly as it appeared or is it real? The optimist that I am, and the believer that I am, says that it’s real. Sound confident? Yes. The reason? Because being a born-again believer is not about popularity, because it’s not about self. It’s about the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, the Savior Of The World, the Rock.
So, I say it’s real. And the evidence will continue to increase. Because Jesus is being praised on primetime and taking Hollywood by storm.
