How many can you feed with your lunch? An interesting perspective came to my attention recently regarding the Biblical account of the feeding of the 5000 found in Luke 9:10-17. The perspective held the belief that Jesus didn’t really feed 5000 people with 5 loaves and 2 fish, but instead that the crowd actually had their own food and were able to scrounge up enough among themselves in order for everyone to eat, be full, and for there to be 12 baskets of leftovers. Again…interesting.
In considering the preceding perspective, I would like to offer the following thoughts: If the Creator of the Universe is unable to multiply baked dough and dead fish, we are in trouble. If Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the Savior of the World has no power to multiply baked dough and dead fish, then how does he have the power to save us from the penalty of sin? If Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, but has no authority to command baked dough and dead fish to multiply, then we believe in a lie. And if the Almighty, the Alpha and Omega, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords lacks the holiness and glory to make baked dough and dead fish multiply even one-fold, then our eternal security is no more stable then today’s gas prices.
But to the contrary, the Jesus who was in the beginning, who was with God and who is God, is the same Jesus who walked this earth, turned water to wine, commanded the sea, healed the sick, multiplied baked dough and dead fish to feed 5000 men, and who conquered sin and death with his very own blood.
Luke 9:16,17 - Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
