The tomb was covered with a stone. It was sealed. Then two guards were placed in front of it.
Did you ever notice how much care was given to keep Jesus in the tomb? Why did they go to such extremes? The leadership of the day didn’t believe that Jesus was anything other than a regular guy anyway. So what was the big deal? Why where they so afraid?
Two thousand years later, people still want to keep Jesus in the tomb and out of their lives. With hearts of stone, they’ve sealed up every aspect of their existence to keep him out. And have guarded their eyes with the lie that they don’t need Jesus in their lives. Does that best describe you?
Here’s the deal…Jesus isn’t in the tomb anymore. The largest stone and the mightiest guards couldn’t keep him in there. The greatest of all man’s power and influence was and is no match for God Almighty.
So, what are you afraid of? That Jesus will radically change your life? That suddenly everything you do and say will have meaning and purpose? Are you afraid that Christ will take all the garbage in your life and exchange it for a million incredibly beautiful uses? Do you think you’re unworthy of eternity with the King? Maybe your heart of stone is too heavy for you to move or you think that years of guarded eyes have permanently taken your sight.
No stone, no seal, no might and no authority could keep Jesus in the grave. No heart is too hard and no life is too wretched. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead and rolled away the stone that covered the tomb is the same power available for you today.
Let Jesus Christ move the stone that’s keeping you buried and he will give you new life.
Ephesians 1:18-21
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of this glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
