When thinking in terms of recycling – trash comes to mind. It was only a few years back when “recycling” was the new craze as a way to save the plant. But as time has gone by, the idea of recycling has not continued to carry the same frenzy it did in the beginning.
Today, with the build up of concern over global warming and the human impact on the environment, an explosion has occurred coining the termed “going green”. The idea of recycling has been reborn and is alive again.
Now, you may have considered “going green” with a variety of things that impact your life, but have you considered “going green” with your faith? The idea or concept behind faith has also gone through cycles of popularity, but as the centuries have gone by, it is still called Faith. No catchy terms. No coined phases. Just “Faith”.
There is a recycling element to faith however; that is overlooked. It happens on a regular basis and yet it often goes unnoticed. As a Christian, when we take the garbage in life and turn it into something useful for someone else, we have “recycled” our faith because we trust and believe that by Christ’s power the transformation of “garbage” is possible. When we give to others, whether it be encouragement, comfort, or compassion, we pass on what God has given us, so that they too can do the same for those down the road. And let’s not forget the all important sharing of God’s transforming power in our lives. The opportunities to “recycle” or “go green” with our faith are endless. But whether the term is “recycling” or “going green”, the overall purpose is the same.
God has given us a “going green” (or recycling) verse in Scripture as an example:
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4
So “go green” with your faith and watch what God will do!
