Author and animal expert, Diana L. Guerrero leaves her mountain hide-away to visit school kids and Los Angeles during the first heat wave of the year! Wow, I forgot how hot it can get in southern California. I took a jaunt down the hill to visit Murrieta Elementary School for an assembly program I call, "Book Secrets." Kids learn how books evolve from the pitch and idea stage through the editing, galleys, cover development and then to the bookstores.
The kids were great but it sure was hot! I was worried about my safari hat with all the animals on it...they are glued on and I was sure the heat would melt them off. However, we survived.
I managed to venture onto the beach at Oceanside. RATS! The air was very still and the heat radiated off the ocean and sand to make it more miserable than it was inland!
If you are in the North County area of San Diego be sure to visit the CRUISIN' GRAND in Escondido, California. Every Friday evening the classic car people gather from near and far to highlight their rides. Lots of cars, food and drink for those who indulge.
I perused the line-up with a couple of pals AFTER we ate a scrumptious meal at Joe's Italian Restaurant. Joe's is a hidden secret with out-of-this-world food. Located on Grand in Escondido, California you should take in the ambiance of this quaint family run joint.
Saturday was quiet, but Sunday found me in Los Angeles for an interview with a source. The interview was for the history section of my new book, BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS. Immediately after, I took a walk up to get some fresh fruit with limon in Olvera Street.
Olvera Street (know as El Pueblo) is the original (and oldest) section of Los Angeles. The Mexican Marketplace is quaint and very small. China town is literally three blocks away. Next trip I'll have to wander up the road and check it out.
Visitors to this historical highlight will find food and products from Mexico just a short jaunt from Union Station. The original stand that invented the taquito is located in the middle. It was too hot to indulge in hot food, but the fresh fruit was lovely.
I have to say that it was great to be home where the temperature is about 20 degrees cooler.
