Animal book author temporarily vanishes as she works on her website before heading out for more events! Where does time go? I usually like to get into this area to update the blog more regularly, but that certainly did not happen as much as I would have liked this last month!
I actually cancelled some plans and have been home working. It is a lot of work to get the rest of my website updated and the new navigation bars done for the ark animals area. Hours and hours and hours...
In the meantime, I need to get out in the garden, but I only managed to take a day to enjoy my hammock and try to catch up on my book club reading.
This weekend I moderate a magazine writing workshop locally and then head down to San Diego for the Latino Book Festival. This event should be attended by 6,000 people on Sunday when I speak.
The news is that the director informed me that there is a major sponsor discussing funding my appearances at the rest of the venues throughout the United States! That would be six more events--and great if it comes through!
In the meantime, it is good to be home. While I was in my hammock I got to witness bird drama. Since I turned on the water and filled the bird baths, the winged warriors have been busy. None of the smaller birds appreciate the raven who found a mouse on the roof. (The wild mice can get into the walls of the house so I appreciate his efforts.)
It appears that the robin has a nest nearby. She is slight of build compared to all the other robins in the area. I watched her bully the raven while the nuthatches and other birds seemed to cheer her on. I focused so heavily on her that she noticed and hoped over to see me--first from one side and then the other. Funny. She tried to get me to follow her down the hill. I thought she might have a nestling, but it was a bunny!
Next, a Steller jay joined me, hanging out to my right, and then my pal, a red winged black bird, showed up. I have to laugh since the animals here include me in their environment rather than considering me a foreigner or a threat.
It is very nice to be accepted by the critters even though it sometimes seems odd.
