Author Diana L. Guerrero returns after three successful days on the road... This week was exciting and fun. After not doing events for a while I enjoyed traveling and meeting readers and writers at recent events.
The first event was at a NEW Barnes & Noble nearby. The commute was a mere 45 minutes. I arrived to find that I was the stores very first author event!
The entire staff was fabulous--and so was the time spent chatting with readers and store visitors. My favorite encounter was with Walter, a young boy who could not read yet, but who really wanted my book.
He was spell bound as he listened to me chat with an adult, his chin barely reaching above the top of the table. Large saucers meet my gaze as I introduced myself and explained that I wrote the book. Since I was the first author he ever met, I encouraged him to take my photo card and tell his friends that he met an author.
His mother promised to read the book to him. Since the book is filled with stories and lessons illustrating good behavior and other examples I am sure it will be a great handbook for teaching him values as well as great time for both of them.
I am amazed at who reads the book and what captivates them. Young adults are currently devoring the text.
In between events I visited with friends and actually took some time off to play. My artist pal Chris (aka Chistobal of California) swept me away to a quaint _and fabulous_ Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Pasadena. We visted Vromen's bookstore and also caught an independent film. (I miss options and choices by living in the mountains where we are limited by demand. Foreign and independents are my favorite films.
Chris took me by the clay studio so I could eyeball his latest creations. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, he should be visible in some southern California events shortly. (He is the artist that designed my fabulous hats I use to promote my book.)
My weekend ended with an event for the California Writers Club (Inland Empire Chapter). I am actually a member but have not been able to attend since my book came out due to conflicts with events I conduct.
The group was enthusiastic and it was fun to see old pals. Many of us also went out to lunch and chatted about writing, books, and related topics.
Now that I am home again, I am expecting another artist friend to arrive Monday. I hope to have an entertaining and creative synergy filled week!
